Using the Administration Home Page

From the Administration Home Web page, you can view information about the server or cluster, and gain access to administration options. This page is available only after the server has been provisioned.

To gain access to this Web page from the server that you want to administer, use the following steps:

To gain access to the Administer RMS on this Web site page

  1. Log on to RMS server as local administrator

  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Windows RMS, and then click Windows RMS Administration.

  3. From the Global Administration page, click Administer RMS on this Web site.

If you have enabled remote administration by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), you can also access the Administration Home page from a different computer by taking the following steps:

  1. In the address bar of your Web browser, type the following URL:

    https://cluster_name:port_number/_wmcs/admin

    Where cluster_name:port_number is the URL specified for this cluster during provisioning. Provide the port number only if you specified a port number other than the default port 80.

  2. When prompted, type the credentials of a local administrator on the server that you are accessing.

The Administration Home page displays information about the cluster, such as the cluster URL, configuration database name and location, server licensor certificate expiration date, and so forth. It also provides links to pages where you can configure the following administration options for the cluster:

  • Trust policies. Add and remove trusted domains. For more information, see “Managing Trust and Trust Policy” later in this subject.

  • Rights policy templates. Create and modify rights policy templates. For more information, see “Managing Rights Policy Templates” later in this subject.

  • Logging settings. Turn on and off logging and view the name of the logging server and database. For more information, see “Managing Logging” later in this subject.

  • Extranet cluster URL settings. Specify an externally available URL for licensing and account certification requests. For more information, see “Configuring an Extranet URL” later in this subject.

  • RMS proxy settings. Specify the address of the proxy server, the authentication type, and the user name to be used when the RMS server needs to connect to the Internet through a proxy server. For more information, see “Configuring RMS Proxy Settings” later in this subject.

  • Security settings. Reset the server private key password, specify the super users group, and decommission RMS. For more information, see "Managing Security when Operating RMS" later in this subject.

  • Certification settings. Specify the validity period for rights account certificates, and specify an administrative contact. (This option is available only in the root cluster, not on licensing-only clusters.) For more information, see “Managing Rights Account Certificates” later in this subject.

  • Exclusion policies. Specify exclusion based on lockbox version, rights account certificate, Windows version, or RMS-enabled application. For more information, see “Managing Exclusion Policy” later in this subject.

  • RM account certification report. View the number of rights account certificates that have been issued. (This option is available only on the root cluster, not on licensing-only clusters.) For more information, see “Tracking Rights Account Certificates” later in this subject.

The RMS Administration Web site uses pop-up windows for configuration of some features. If you are using a pop-up blocker with your Web browser, you should configure your browser settings to allow pop-ups from the RMS Administration Web site.
