Expandable storage

In Windows Phone, the SD card is treated as a separate, external volume. This allows the end user to purchase the card of their choice, and then use it to expand the storage capacity of their phone. Adding, removing, or changing the card will not break the core functionality of the phone. Both hot-swap and sideloading scenarios are supported. Hot-swap refers to the ability to add or remove the card while the phone is on, and continue to use the phone. Sideloading refers to the ability to copy content to the card offline, such as by using a PC or camera, insert the card into the phone, and then access the content on the phone.
