Storage model

This section describes the architecture of the Windows Phone storage model. The storage model includes the following topics:

  • Partition layout – Describes which partitions are defined on internal storage, and what each partition is responsible for.

  • Expandable storage – Refers to how to use an SD card to expand the storage capabilities of the device.

  • Folder layout – Refers to how folders are organized on the device and the API you use to access those folders.

  • Storage utilization – Refers to how storage use is presented to the user, and methods you can use to clean up storage.

  • Phone storage service – Describes the service that runs in response to certain storage events.
