Event Review: Painless Data Protection (Session ITPROHOT-16)

Welcome to the material supporting page for this session. The materials on this page have been selected as the best matches to the content covered in the live event session.

Session Outline

In this session will start with a review of the past and current Contoso data protection and management practices. We will then look at some of the key challenges that Contoso is facing and some of the possible solutions. Next, we will discuss how to implement centralized storage. We will examine Windows Storage Server and other tools available to help centralize storage. After Contoso has managed to centralize all of its data, the next step is to back up this data. We will examine several different backup options available and then design a backup deployment plan for Contoso. Finally, we will examine more tools that will help Contoso with centralized storage and backup. We will talk about some common issues with data that result in the need for tools such as Data Protection Manager, or DPM, and see how DPM addresses these needs and challenges.

  • Clinic 2215: Implementing and Managing Windows Storage Server 2003: One day Free eLearning

Summary: This one day, free eLearning clinic provides students with the knowledge and skills to implement and manage Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environment. The clinic is intended for systems engineers who are responsible for implementing and managing storage servers.

  • Course 2274: Managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment: Five days; Instructor-led

Summary: This five day, instructor -led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to manage accounts and resources in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environment. The course is intended for systems administrator and systems engineer candidates who are responsible for managing accounts and resources. These tasks include managing user, computer, and group accounts; managing access to network resources; managing printers; managing an organizational unit in a network based on Active Directory directory service; and implementing Group Policy to manage users and computers.

  • Course 2275: Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment: Three days; Instructor-led

Summary: This three day, instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to effectively maintain server resources, monitor server performance, and safeguard data on a computer running one of the operating systems in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family.

  • Course 2952: Deploying and Managing Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager

Summary: In this three hour course, students will learn the skills necessary to install, configure, and manage Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM). Students will create the protection groups that identify the network resources that will be protected and install the agents to these protected servers. Students will also configure the DPM environment to support both administrative as well as end-user file recovery and to enable reporting and monitoring. A comprehensive hands-on lab provides students the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned in this course.
